J. Mark Taylor practices complex family law, litigation, mediation and arbitration on the local, state and national level.
Mr. Taylor holds degrees from Wofford College (B.A. with Honors in Sociology, 1976), Harvard University (Master’s in Theological Studies, 1978) and the University of South Carolina School of Law (Juris Doctor, 1983). He has been admitted to practice in all state courts, U.S. District Court, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Taylor has been selected numerous years for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America (Family Law), annually recognized by South Carolina Super Lawyers from its inception as one of the top family law attorneys in South Carolina, selected by Greater Columbia Business Monthly’s Legal Elite and Columbia Metropolitan magazine for Best South Carolina Attorneys.
He has received the highest individual rating of “AV Preeminent” in Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. He was also a 2007 recipient of the University of South Carolina School of Law’s highest alumni recognition, the Compleat Lawyer Award (Gold Medallion).
Mr. Taylor is an elected Fellow, former National Board of Governors member and Past President of the S. C. Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He has served as Past President of the Lexington County Bar Association, Past Chair-Elect of the Family Law Section of the South Carolina Bar, Past Chair of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association Family Law Section, and one of 24 Special Investigators appointed to assist the South Carolina Disciplinary Counsel, among other distinctions.
He has also been an instructor in the South Carolina Family Court Judges School and a speaker on numerous Family Law Continuing Legal Education programs, including judicial programs and conferences over the span of three decades.
His church and community activities involve charitable events including being the founder and director of the FareWell Farm Pro Tennis Classic.
He is married to Suzanne Wells Taylor and has two children, Sarah Taylor Cassidy (an Associate with Moore Taylor) and Ben Taylor.
